What is the meaning of the nursery rhyme "Cut Thistles in May"?

Cut thistles in May,
They'll grow in a day;
Cut them in June,
That is too soon;
Cut them in July,
Then they will die.

It isn't homework or anything like that. I'm just curious since a lot of seemingly innocent nursery rhymes have rather not-so-innocent meanings.
