They are struggling to win series against good teams.T-20's don't count if they are not in ICC tournaments, any team can get lucky on two consecutive days.
reaching semifinals doesn't guarantee bright future,ICC tournaments are just meant for popularizing the game.the real stuff is what you do other than that. even kenya reached the semifinal in 2003 WC.
Edit: If Pakistan wins the next world-cup, won't that make them the best team?

Not all ICC tournaments are such indicators , not even world cups, The best team is not guaranteed to win it every time , the team which peaks at the right time wins it.A pakistani would know the meaning of peaking at the right time considering what happened at WC 1992, and Best team doesn't win all the time India wasn't the best team in 1983 WC.they were just good during those 2 or 3 weeks. Its a fact.The only best teams to win the WC's are the 1975 ,1979 , 2003 ,2007 WC winning teams.
The fact that people actually take interest in WC is because it gives you a title of "World champion", its a showpiece event meant for the outsiders for the promotion of the game.
The other ICC events like Champions trophy are considered as waste of time by many experts, why? Don't all the teams play each other , yes they do, but winning the champions trophy does not give you a title of World champion.You can't call yourself World champion after winning it.
So the importance of ICC tournament only lies in the fact that they are promotional events which gives a certain title to the winners it doesn't make you the best team.
considering the inexperienced batting line up i don't think Pakistan is going to win it.When someone wants to check the position of a team they look at the rankings they don't look for semi finalists in meaningless of meaning ICC champions trophy.Or fluky t20 tournaments.
As far as WCs are concerned Pakistan didn't even cross the first round on last 2 occasions (2003 ,2007).And that completely matches with their performance of last 6 years or so.But that cn't be considered as a true indicator coz even india last time did not reach second
even India did not reach second round last time , but that doesn't match with their performance in other series ,their performance during this period and win loss ratio speaks for itself.
And btw, India have won one t20 wc only three years ago, and Australia have won none.but at this time anyone in his right mind would agree that Australia is better t20 team than india.So how ICC tournaments are true indicators.lol
