I just saw an excerpt of the film "Superman" where Lex Luthor brags that a five-megaton bomb planted at a precise location in the San Andreas Fault would cause an earthquake that would decimate the entire West Coast. In case you're not familiar with the movie, his scheme was to divert an ICBM into the fault to cause the disaster.
Does anyone know if Luthor's prediction would be correct?
Thank you for your answers. However, how would this translate into a late-'70s era ICBM? I presume the XK101 in the film is a test missile, or perhaps twin test missiles sent in opposite directions (one headed due East to New Jersey, the other due West to either California or Nevada).
