What is the effect of the pH level of water in the health of stem-cut roses?

Let's say we have 3 stem cut roses of the same size. You put each in identical vases and you label them vase A, vase B, and vase C. In vase A, you put an amount of soft drink, in vase B you put the same amount of pure water (the control in the experiment) and in vase C you put the same amount of baking soda plus water solution. How will each rose plant grow?

It would be helpful if you add some explanations, websites and other sources. Please help!!! Thanks!
