My girlfriend is bi-lingual and she was born in another country. I've picked up a bits and pieces of her native language here and there,but I want to be at the point where I can speak and understand the language conversationally. I've asked her to attempt to teach me on occasion, but it's hard to expect the average person to be in the position to teach . Eventually, I'm planning to visit her family as things are becoming a bit more serious and I desperately want to avoid an awkward encounter. I've tried books and online material, but I often find the material dry and impractical. Any words of advice from someone with a similar experience. I'd appreciate it,thanks.
