What is the distinction between a superficial desire and a real desire?

If there is one?
Additional information: Conscious and sub-conscious is one way of approaching the question. I was thinking about the desires we consciously hold and if there is a distinction that can be made. Perhaps they are rooted in the subconscious, but nonetheless identifiable at the conscious level.
How do you know if something is a genuine, deep desire? All of our desires are brought to us by conditioning. Where is the distinction, if any? Are there just varying levels of superficiality?
@ Concido and Theron: Interesting Concido. I knew I somewhat identified with Theron's answer before seeing his answer, but I suppose my lack of surety comes with my recent "out of touchness" with my Spirit.
