WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WORDS: 'AFFECT' AND 'EFFECT'?

affect is often used as a verb. ex. Alcohol will affect your ability to drive.
effect is a noun. ex. the effects of alcohol often impair a person's judgement.
effect is brought about by the cause or result of something
affect is the result of causing something.

He was not affected by the recession. The effects of the recession have devasted many.
 
affect, verb: to cause some consequence
The people of Louisiana were affected adversely by the hurricane.

affect, noun: the external appearance of feeling. Used with no article.
She is without affect today. She may be sad. I can't tell.

effect, noun: the consequence of a cause.
The effect of digging the ditch was reduced flooding in the neighborhood.

effect, verb: to bring about
The school board effected changes to the discipline policy.
 
Affect is a verb, as in you can affect something or be affected. Effect is a noun as in you feel the effect or see the effect of A on B.
