what is the difference between the GM 9.5 Rear axle, from pre 1997 to above 97, install

kits vary at that year? when looking at install kits, the bearing kits asks if its pre 1997 im pretty sure, compared to after 1997, i know the diffence between 2wd and 4wd the axle is narrower.
