What is the difference between a hd media player and a hdmi media player ?

I'm looking to buy a media player and have seen a cyclone 500gb hd media player with record function and another which is also 500gb but says hdmi media player with tv record funtion, I know HD is the technology and hdmi is the cable used , its just whats on the side of the box which is throwing me ?
