What is the diffeance between a new 2008 Jeep Wrangler and an old-school Jeep Wrangler.?

I heard this person say say that the new Jeep Wranglers were "Jeep Corporation Vehicles, but not real Jeeps."
When I say old school Wrangler, i should also mention that I am refering to CJ's and stuff like that too.
