If we could just define it then people can't say "oh that isn't a sport" or "yes it is a sport". What is the real definition?

I think a sport is anything that require physical movement, skill, hard work, and is competitive. You have to be able to win or lose as well.

A sport is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc. It is also defined as a physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

Thus, anything fitting that description can be called a sport. Auto racing for example requires skill and physical prowess so it would qualify as a sport. Chess on the other hand does not require physical prowess, so it is a game, not a sport. Still, there are some "sports" that are hard to classify as such, and some games that come close to being sports so what is or is not a sport is not always clear cut.
