What is the deal with this rash on my butt?

My husband has this same problem. And his doctor told him to use Monistat or any other the counter yeast meds.Plus to use at the same time a over the counter cortisone ointment. Twice daily it has helped him.I sure would try it..
Use it for 2 weeks then it sure be cleared up then use it at the first sign of it coming back..

ghunt,

A rash that has been going on for "several years" needs medical attention. Putting topical ointments on it or trying other remedies, without medical advice, could make your condition worse.

Rashes can be caused by many different things...best address the cause and not simply treat the symptoms.

The last thing you want to do is put an "ointment" on the area. A "cream" for yeast would be better. Ointment traps moisture between the ointment and skin which allows yeast to thrive since it likes warmth and moisture.

If it is yeast, Nystatin Cream will work well (prescription).

Have you tried using AF Ze-Zorb powder in the area? This is an absorbing powder and will help keep the are more dry.

Instead of suffering from the misery, see a dermatologist and get proper diagnosis and treatment.

I've had a similar problem, and have found that Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar either full strength or diluted 50% with distilled water on a cotton ball applied twice a day or more, totally relieves the itching and reduces redness. It may even cure the problem, I've been using it for 3 days and it seems to be healing completely. I should mention I am also on a raw organic fruit and veggie diet right now, and only drinking distilled water. I think the vinegar would provide relief by itself though!
