...without contract? Please do not suggest the Dream G2 and CECT G1. They are both counterfeit phones produced in China. They have a faked look-and-feel which appears like Google Android, but they DO NOT run the Google Android operating system. New software cannot be deployed to them so they do not meet my flexibility criteria.
I would like to replace my phone with something more flexible.
I do not want to pay for an 18 month contract, since I travel a lot outside the UK and I need to be able to put different carriers SIM cards into it.
I want to be able to modify the behaviour of the phone, put my own software onto it and experiment with having a powerful portable touchscreen device which can do what I want. Hence the importance of the Android OS, although I would consider anything based on a community-maintained linux version.
So far I've encountered the Sciphone N19 for about £150, which appears to be a genuine Android phone.
