What is the "Canvass for guests" in Dragon Quest 9"?

Canvassing for Guests is another name for TAG mode. What you are doing is broadcasting some of your DQ IX data while simultaneously looking for other people doing the same. (Sadly unlike a previous SquareEnix game you cannot get rewards for random signals, there has to be someone Canvasing for Guests within your antenna range.)

You get three~four things out of this.
1. If the player is canvasing with a grotto map you can talk to that character when they appear in your inn and get a copy of the map. Only maps that have been completed can be exchanged this way.
2. As you collect more unique guests more of the inn is unlocked. In other areas of the inn there is a library with a lot of alchemy recipes and a chest with a mini medal. At thirty guests your basement opens that has a number of respawning alchemy drops.
3. Having 30 guests also makes your special guests give you an additional piece of their costume armor.

Tips on canvasing:
1. You can only canvas three people at a time. It feels a lot like a bug, but it is the limit on the US devices. Once you hit three guests quit canvasing and step outside. When you go back into the inn you can resume canvasing again.
2. It is possible to receive multiple maps from someone. First canvas them and talk to them to get the first map. Then talk to Patty and kick that person out of the inn. Have the other person restart their canvasing with a new map and you can find them again and receive the new map as well.
3. You can only have 30 guests in your inn at any one time. When you canvas your 31st guest the first will be automatically kicked out. If you want to save someone from this fate talk to Patty and put them in the VIP rooms.

What is it? = When you "Canvass for guests," it means you're kind of doing a Wi-Fii search for other nearby DQ9 players, usually like you have a friend who's also playing DQ9 or fan-gathering event.

What for? = To share treasure maps with each other. However, the players can only share the maps only after beating that map's dungeon.

Why do it? = Dungeons are great places for leveling up/rare items/etc.

How does it work? = Both you and your friend must be "Canvass for guests" and sort of link up. You'll see each other's characters and may share treasure maps.
