What is the Better car: Mazda RX8 or VW GTI ?

I have had 3 VW's over the years: 2 Rabbits and 1 Corrado G60, I now drive a Mazda RX8 6 speed and I love it but when I see guys driving GTI's they act like they think it's the best car out there....Like german cars are the only fun sporty cars....which I think is just foolish pride, especially since VW's have a horrible record for reliability. 1 out of 3 of my previous VW's was always breaking down, the other were fine. 2 out of 2 mazdas that I have had so far (RX7 and now Rx-8) and they were both very reliable, no issues....what do you people think? Which is the superior car and why?

Ultimately which is the "best" car depends on what you want from your car.

The RX8 is arguably a true sports car with passably functional seating for 4 and a price tag in the $27,000 - $33,000 range, making it affordable by mere mortals (as upposed to a Vette, Boxter, Audi TT, etc.). So if you want a sports car, get the RX8.

The GTI is a great sports coupe and daily driver, but it's a big stretch to call it a "sports car."

I'd say the GTI is better because:
1. It's a true 4-season car, while the RX8 is useless in the snow;
2. Despite having really good performance (as does the RX8), it gets decent fuel economy
3. It actually has a usable back seat and trunk area
4. It's about $5,000 cheaper
5. While I'm sure the RX8 is a blast to drive, so's the GTI.

If it was my money, I'd get the GTI and then take the $5 grand I saved vs. buying a RX8 (not to mention the cost of the winter beater I'd need for snowy months) and get a Ducati Monster 690 for those summer days when I wanted to be extra-sporting in my travels.
