What is the best way to share a iTunes library over a multi-mac network?

Ok, so I have this huge iTunes library, complete with music and videos. It's 344 gigs big. I currently have three mac's on this network. I put the library files on a usb hard drive (eek!), and have been sharing them to each of the three computers by pointing each iTunes library to that USB drive. It works. Problem is, only 1 computer can access content at a time. All other computers will see a message--- "iTunes library is locked". I thought of duplicating a library for each machine but when I add content, i'd have to add it to each library, plus it would be 344 gigs x 3 to store. Is there a way to share a single itunes library where 1) each computer had access and would not be "locked" out. and 2) adding content would be available to each computer. If I used a dedicated server, would that solve the problem? [my windows buddy is laughing at me right now-he says media player already does this easily]- Thanks.
