What is the best way to play a dance video game (such as dance dance revolution) on

my pc or television? I know there's a plug & play mat but the reviews don't sound very good and I saw something called stepmania but I can't find much on it. What about buying an older video game console (ps2?) with a version of the game? How much would that cost?
