My apartment wall has a light blue color of paint on it. It was like that since I moved in. However I have approval from my landlord to paint the apartment a different color.

I'm planning on painting it white. Part of the apartment wall & ceiling is white already (which I'll paint over with a fresh coat of paint) but the blue is UGLY. So how hard will it be to paint the white over the blue? How many coats of paint do I need? What is the best brand to get without using more than one coat of paint? Lastly do I need to buy anything else to paint white over the light blue?

Thank you.

Before you paint walls in a apartment, best talk to the management.Make sure its ok to do this. They may have some things available to help you with the job, like ladders, and where to find paint, so on. You can also go to the local hardware store, explain the blue problem and ask for a thick paint that doesn't drip and will cover with one coat. Due to the fact you will be living in the apartment while you paint, do one room at a time so you can close it off at night and not smell it. You must close the vent so the air doesn't circulate the smell. You will need drop cloths, to cover your furniture and the floors. Cardboard is great, it absorbs the drips . You don't want to track paint onto the carpets or the floors if you walk into some of the drippings. Also you will need paint brushes, roller. pans, and masking tape. Are you sure the apartments will not do it for you for a fee.
