What is the best way to learn PHP?

I currently use dreamweaver and Photoshop to edit my webpages, I have a personal webpage and a couple other pages that I keep up to date for a few local business and friends. I would love to learn PHP because that seem to be the new trend that pages are using, and they seem to have a look and the functionality is better. If I buy a book on PHP is that all I would need, or is there another language that I should learn before PHP, I consider myself pretty good with computers and I know a little bit on html but not a lot. Please give me some recommendations, or if you know of any good sites that will help me out. Thanks
