What is the best way to keep an outdoor dog warm in the winter?

There are only two months a year that get very cold where I live, they average a low of 25 degrees and a high of 40 degrees. I plan on letting my dogs sleep in the basement when it's very cold outside, but I have had to pay hundreds of dollars for the damages they have caused at apartments where they have lived inside.
 
Bring him into your home the way companion dogs are supposed to live.

No such breed as "outdoor dog" - why get a dog if you leave it outside?? It's cruel and you can't bond properly with a dog unless he is part of your indoor life.

If they damage things, it is because they are not properly trained, that is what you need to do, not keep them outside.
