I want to hike to the top of Saddleback mountain in Orange County California. Santiago peak in particular. I want to know the shortest route. Not necessarily the easiest. I know most guides say to use the Holy Jim trail but right now the roads have been washed out and severely damaged. There will be no way to get a car up there for months. So that adds 10 miles to an already 15 mile hike. 25 miles is a little too long for me in one day. Looking at trail maps there seems to be shorter routes but since no one ever mentions going this way maybe it is too steep or the trails are not there anymore. I was just wondering if anyone has done it and what are their recommendations. Thanks!
