What is the best way to contact the author of a book?

Living authors, I meant. (I don't intend to employ mediums to communicate with ghosts of authors :)
Ok, serious again. Could I possibly get hold of the email id of the author of a book I liked (or disliked)? To give him or her direct feedback, if I feel strongly about the issue.
Is the internet a good source to hunt for their email addresses?
Alternatively, are their official contact details available with the publisher or somebody else?
That too might be a roundabout way. How can I get hold of the author in the easiest possible way?

Note: Contacting by email is the easiest way for me.

Usually, if they have a website, they might post an e-mail address.
You can try searching there.
Otherwise, it may be impossible.

Some authors can be contacted by e-mail, others will probably operate through a publisher. In lieu of having theirpersonal/business e-mail (which are usually found on their personal sites) I'd send an e-mail or snail mail through the publisher. They usually make sure the author gets the messages.

Lol about the ghosts of authors.
Usually on an author's website, they're will be a contact link where you can write a message on the website itself and send it the the author or an email address where you can contact the author is listed.

If a contact link on the website isn't available, try one of the following:

-Log onto the author's message board, if one exists. Some authors happily chat with the public on blogs and message boards. At least you might find someone on the message board who knows how to contact the author.

-Write to the author's agent. Agents forward correspondence to the author. Always be professional and clearly state your intentions for contacting the author in your letter.

-Find out if the author is doing a book signing at a local bookstore or appearing at a convention or writer's conference in your area. Make plans to attend the event and approach the author, if possible.

-Send a letter to the author in care of her publisher. You can find publisher contact information in the front of the author's book or on the publisher's website.

Good luck!
