Should I major in history or education? And what would be a good subject to minor in? I was thinking maybe ASL...

Major in what interests you... history, and minor in education and get certified.

Check out the state schools in your area - many are quite good for teaching programs (an usually a little - or a lot - less expensive than private schools).

ASL would be interesting, you could always double minor.

You should major in education at Harvard. Then, continue your studies abroad, picking up fluency in at least 5 languages. Next, get a PhD in educational psychology. (Make sure that all the while, you're practicing as an informal teacher/tutor). Then have some kids. Raise these kids, gaining significant experience with children and their habits. Then come to California and get a teaching credential from CSUN, and voila, you've become a teacher in the best way!
