18 yrs old. I've had acne since I was 13 and I have a lot of scarring left over. It is has lightened up a small bit over the years, but I still get a lot of new acne too and the sides of my face are just full of acne and scars. The forehead and chin area aren't bad tho...

Does anyone know what I should do for severe acne and scarring? It's really hard for me to socialize especially when I already have social anxiety disorder.

(It isn't cystic acne, but it is still pretty bad.)

For severe scarring I guess you could see a dermatologist and talk through some options - laser treatment etc.

Otherwise, things I have heard are good for scarring - 'Bio Oil' and rose hip oil.

Id like to hear some other opinions also, as I have some scarring to.

Hey Waterlily,

Did you use epidermx all over your face or just where you had scars? How often did you use it?

At my last dermatology appt, I asked my dr about treatment for my scarring (I took Accutane twice as you probably guessed). She suggested another dr and told me to ask about Fraxel. Does anyone know anything about this? Does insurance cover it? If not, how much does it cost? Thanks.

I used it all over the face, same with the Silkia camellia oil. I used it 2 times a week, sometimes 3. The oil was every morning and night. I believe the oil was a big part of the healing.

I use a product by philosophy skin products called "help me" It lightens those old deep red scars and also seems to shrink your pores so they are less visible.

Insurance did not cover Fraxel for me. I had it done anyway because my scars are so deep and ugly. I have been waiting to get it done for 20 years so I did.

I had my fraxel done yesterday. It was painful but it was over in no time. My face was really hot after but I put on icepacks. My face is still red but it does not hurt at all. I will need 4 more treatments.

I am sorry I don't have a lot of information to share. I don't know the laser nuraber or anything. I was so nervous that I did not ask a lot of questions. I did it on my lunch hour and went right back to work. I will post more as things progress.

I had a hard time finding info on Faxel.

For acne, try the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 kit. For red marks, Alpha Hydrox 12% AHA Souffle works well for me. For pitted scars, I think I'm one of the lucky ones that didn't have to use laser or fraxel to get rid of them. I had a few 2mm deep scars and they were fillled in after a year's use of Silkia camellia oil and Epidermx microdermabrasion. It took a long time but at least delivered results finally and didn't cost me a fortune.
