-I'm a girl.
-I want good gas mileage
-Low insurance
-SAFETY

I really want a toyota prius, but am open to new ideas also.
My parents want me to get a volvo, saying they are the safest cars on the road, but I really don't know if this is true.

Please include lots of information backing up your answer. Thanks!

If you get to pick a NEW car, it'll depend on your price range and what you like. Costs will be significantly higher than with any used car.

The initial purchase price is lower on a used car, as is insurance, registration, etc.

Volvos are great cars, expensive. A Prius will give you great mileage, but doesn't score very high on the "coolness factor."

Think about if you will be hauling friends around, going on long road trips, or hauling sports equipment or whatever.

What it comes down to is, what is driving your decision? Cost? Looks? performance?

good luck.
