Im looking for a flash cart and came very close to buying an r4 when i heard that their team was shut down. Is this true, and if so wich cart should i go for?

If you don't have a DSi, get an Acekard 2.1 or M3 Real.
If you do, get an Acekard 2i or M3i Zero.

The Acekards can use the good official firmware, and a really flexible one also made by the Acekard team, the one I use, called AKAIO.

The M3 products have a really smooth and beautiful firmware called Sakura, but with less said flexibility.

If you get the ones for DSi, and you go on wifi, you'll need their 1.4 firmware patches. I have the Acekard 2i, so I only know how to do it on that. But the way it should work (you'll understand this once you get it in your hands, till then it may sound like gibberish) for both is simply putting it anywhere on your mircoSD(HC) and booting it. Don't turn it off till it's done, and you're good. Of course, if you have a DS Lite or whatnot, none of that is even necessary. Just plug and play.

A Flashcart is the best thing that will ever happen to your DS, so getting a good one is a must. R4? Crap. Sorry.
I have a GBC, SNES, and a Sega Genesis on my flashcart :)
Just to list some of the awesome perks. Sonic 2 has never been better.
