What is the best bait, fishing line, hook, and time to catch carp?

There is a lake near my house that I just found oun had very large carp in it. In the evening you can see them swimming back and forth in groups of 5 or 6. The biggest I've seen had be 2 1/2 feet long, I've only seen relatively small ones caught but they were snagged and I don't want to catch fish like that. These huge fish seem to be really smart and won't bite lures or worms. I'm just wondering what are the best baits, fishing line, hooks, and time to catch carp.

If I'm ever in the mood to catch carp, I put on a small salmon egg hook or two (size 6 and smaller), a splitshot or any other small weight, some 8 pound line, and corn. I never have trouble catching carp with this setup. and its a helluva lot of fun.

After you cast out your line, don't tighten it up all the way. Leave a little bit of slack so the fish can swim with the bait for a few feet without feeling the tension of the line. This will give you time to set the hook and start the fun :)

i caught one a few weeks ago on a rapla it was small but yeah. that was the last thing i thought i would get one on. and as the other stuff... what ever is big and will take a fish like that.
