What is the best android on the market for t-mobile currently?

Hey I've been thinking of upgrading to an android phone in the near future. I do like having a physical keyboard but if typing on a touch screen works well enough i wouldn't mind using that instead. I've noticed that the nexus one's specs but I'm not sure I want to spend 500 dollars on a phone unless its a big improvement over the others. What would you recommend?
