your towing capacity is limited to your braking ability, if what you are towing has breaks then you can tow more. if not then you have to two less to keep from damaging your brakes and jack knifing your car and towed device. normally if you have a two hitch installed professionally you can tow up to 2500 pounds with electric brakes on the towed device and adjusted right. with a Tong weight of 500 pounds you can tow 2000 pounds safely in dry weather only. Pulling the load is not the problem it's the stopping ability that you have to worry about. The jeep has a compensating valve so that when weight is added to the rear wheels it opens up the valve and allows the rear brakes to work more, without the proper tong weight the rear brakes will not operate at full capacity causing you to be pushed by the device you are towing. To be sure always go to a store that installs tow bars and they can give you the amount you are allowed to tow legally, however it does not mean you can tow it safely with out experience, you will need to maintain a safer distance from the vehicle in front of you,
