What is that "percolating" sound coming from the rear of my car?

I have an 04 GTO. Car runs great but has a strange noise that I can only classify as a "percolating" sound that sounds like it is coming from the rear.. I can only hear it at idle with the car standing still or at a stop light.
In these cars the gas tank in half of the trunk. I am wondering if it is the fuel pump? Any ideas?
