What is so wrong with having naturally curly biracial hair? (story)?

I am biracial (black/white) with long, big, black, naturally curly hair. I love how full it is because I love wearing big hair and like how I'm able to adjust how full I want it to be for that day.. My hair is fairly similar to these ladies below:

I take the public bus to get to my college. Yesterday when I got on, I noticed a group of black women (maybe in their 20's) started making smart-rude remarks about my hair that were loud enough to hear. They were even making animal sounds. One said a "bahhhhh" sound to represent a sheep. However, I decided to be the bigger person and keep my mouth shut. I just don't understand what is so wrong with wearing naturally curly hair. I normally get wonderful comments about how people like my hair but there is always that group of people that have something to say about it, and it is usually the ones with the "fake" curls or "fake" straight hair slapped on their heads. For that reason, I feel they really have no room to talk until they wear natural hair themselves.

I'm proud of who I am but I never think I'm a step above anyone. I just don't understand why some people have to be rude about naturally curly hair.

Opinions?
