i think alec went along for the ride, and the volturi just wants gifted people. think, theyll take edward and alice, "vegetarians" not the volturi lifestyle, but simply want them because of their gifts. theyre lifestyles dont agree, regard for human life. back to your question, I also think its the way jane talks to aro, in the movie jane says to him master, so she is subordinate, and knows her place. hope that helps, sorry if I babbled.
