what is meant by Android software?

Nowadays all the cellphones companies says that this phone is latest one, in this we are using android software. What is the difference between this software and other software which are commonly used in cellphones
 
Android software is an open-source software built by Google for basically smart phones...Other smart phones come with either Symbian softwares (Nokia) or Windows Mobile v 6.x or the Apple OS (iPhone). The difference between the four is that Android software allows developers to make their own version of Android softwares as the are open-source, thus, making the Android more flexible than the others..
