There is a mix of conditions for the marine mechanic. When working on smaller engines or outboards, the job can usually come to your shop on a trailer. For larger power plants on larger boats the job is performed on the boat in the water, or in a dry dock.
Sometimes some gymnastic agility is required to access an inboard engine and the compartment can be stifiling.
