What is it about Politics that divides people into two HUGE camps?

Two men who are HUGE fans of one sports team are like blood brothers until one finds out the other is from a different political party and then suddenly.............the other guy is an idiot!

Two sisters that have everything in common and love each others family......then politics and a split occurs


Two families who go to the same Church and are greatr friends....then one mentions something political and BAM......a split over poltical


I have seen politics rip-apart families.....just listen to what is being said here on Y/A..............tearing each other up over crap NOT ONE of REALLY knows what's going on.....it's the side we decided to believe the most....but we seem to really hate them both



Is it we fell our intelligence has been insulted when another supports the other side????

I just think there are different ways of looking at the same problem. One approach is this and one not; one judges, the other doesn't.... so of course, it reaches down to people's 'emotion' which may not have anything to do with common sense.

The Republicans today are not the same party they were a long time ago. There's a lot of narrow-minded, ignorant, religious right people now claiming the party, and I think it's hurting the party.

People need to stay objective - look at both sides and different interpretations of the same story - and come up with their own belief. I am independent; I've voted Repbublican and Democrat - I tend to vote for 'intelligence' (which GW had NONE!!)... Even his dad knew what a clown he was. O'Bama is smarter, more creative... yes - he IS taking risks - but so did the Republicans... O'Bama seems like he really wants to WORK WITH countries and try to come to some kind of happy medium - not necessarily win..... just be able to 'tolerate' our differences (and that's fine).

When we were kids - and were in a fight, what did our parents teach us?... Keep fighting:???? or "Shake hands" and try to be friends.... it all goes back to childhood. O'Bama is self made - GW's dad made him - big difference in how you approach life and sucess.
 
The behavior is actually very similar to neurons in the brain. When it comes to politics, we behave very much like neurons. Neurons can only do one of two things: fire an impulse, or not. A 0 or a 1. This is why it always boils down to two camps, because it is the simplest way to observe the problem.

The reason why this happens is not because we are not intelligent, on the contrary, it happens because we are intelligent :)

Among intelligent people, they use fewer neurons to come to the same conclusions a less smart person would come to, but in critical thinking, they use very many more compared to a less smart person. You can see how this segues into people that don't subscribe to one school of thought; they are using more of their brain to think critically.
 
A flawed system that makes it extremely difficult for third- or fourth-party candidates to gain any ground. Several European countries have four political parties of note, which is much better for democracy than just two.

P.S. Shouldn't your icon read "Montana Boy"? Anyone who tries so hard to label themselves as a man obviously has some self-esteem issues.
 
I don't let politics come between me and my friends and family..we don't talk about it..if they start, I tell them it's not a good idea....I am a Democrat and have several friends and family that are Republicans...we are never going to agree, so what's the point?
 
It doesn't. But it does divide a minority of the people into two small, very LOUD camps. I don't actually know too very many people at all who are political whackos, even though I live in one of the leftiest places on Earth.
