What is intelligence? The amount of knowledge, or the ability to gain knowledge?

For example, which is more intelligent:

A) Someone who is like an encyclopedia, knowing all about everything
B) Someone who makes connections fast and is able to grasp any concept easily
C) Both are simply different kinds of intelligence
D) Neither (then what is intelligence?)
I ask because I notice many people associate "intelligent" with "knows a lot".
