My boyfriend was discharged from the Army Reserves. The reason for the discharge was failure to complete IADT training. What does that mean?
He said that he never actually joined, that he went to M.E.P.S for the first time and someone told him if he wanted to go to college then dont join the military because he will be deployed alot (he said he was going for MP)
But with this discharge letter i found, there was also a leave and earning statement dealing with life insurance...
I was in the air force and didnt recieve those until i was already signed up and through training...
So my question is...what is IADT....and when is it done?

IADT = Initial Active Duty Training.

He must have signed a contract or else he cannot get a discharge and DD214. If he signs a contract for the military and then just doesn't show up he will get discharged for not going to his training.

The reason he had an LES for the Reserves is when you join the Reserves you are treated a little different. Reserve TIS starts at their PEBD (Pay Entry Base Date) which is when they signed their contract rather than their BASD (Basic Active Service Date) when they shipped out to their Basic Training.

When you join the Reserves you are imediately covered under the SGLI so if you do not start attending your regular monthly Battle Assemblies (Drill) then by the time you go to Basic Training you have a small debt for your SGLI.
