Hi ---
I have DDD in my lower back --4 disks ----and the past couple days I have been having what I thought were serious spasms. But, I have been taking a muscle relaxer for a while now and it helps tremendously with my pain. But, nothing is touching these things!!!

I don't know if I can describe this correctly ---- they hit me about every 30 minutes (or have today) --- its like a pounding kind of pain that "grabs" me in my lower back and radiates a little. Sometimes it feels like it is traveling up my spine.

Any ideas on what this is????? I would really appreciate y'alls help.
Thank you -
Mary

Mary, it's possible that it is spasms that are just severe enough that the muscle relaxers can't be of much help. Have you been using a heating pad? Taking long, hot, soaks in the tub? Those have always helped me a lot. I think, too, that you might want to call your spine specialist if they continue to be persistant.

It does sound like spasms are a possibilty, but of course we can't diagnose you on here. I agree with carol - try to use heat over the area, sometimes heat kinda soothes the spasms a bit. Which muscle relaxer have you been taking?

I have actually had great success with heat but with cold packs as well. I alternate between the two. Also if you could ask someone to give you a light massage I have found this helpful too.

It sounRAB like the muscle relaxer is not working for you. May I ask what they have you on? You might consider calling your doc and explaining what is going on they might want to change your relaxant.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I am not a DR by any means, but your symptoms sounRAB to me like a spasms. I had them all the time for a long time after my surgeries; now I don't have them very often, but when I do - i know what you are saying. Pain from them brings me down to the floor literally.

I did take muscle relaxer and it had to go up because lower doses did not work much. Please, ask your DR what he thinks about it.

Good luck to you and best wishes!

I apologize for not getting back to y'all sooner. We had to go out of town at the last minute.
I really appreciate y'alls comments. I love these healtrabroadoarRAB. It is just great to see what other people are experiencing with the same things you have going on.
I am using Soma (I think it is 375mg). I average 3 a day. I also take Oxycontin for my DDD and osteoarthritis. The soma keeps me from having to take higher doses of the Oxy.
The spasms (I feel sure that is what they were) only lasted 2 or 3 days. Thank God for that!!!!!! I think those were worse than my pain I have if I don't take my meRAB. WOW!!!!!! I feel for those of yall that have these things on a regular basis.
I will mention them to my back dr. at my next visit ---unless I have another attack!!!!!!!
I actually LIVE on a heating pad. I have one on my sofa where I sit and I use a wrap around velcro one while I sleep. That did not phase those spasms though.
Again --- thank you all so much for taking time to help me.
Mary
