Have you taken it to a ASE certified mechanic? Do the cylinders still have good pressure? Is it burning oil from the engines piston rings or cylinder heads? Do you plan on pulling and replacing the engine yourself?

You need to know the answers to these questions because they will tell you what is wrong with your engine and if it can be repaired cheaper than replacing the entire engine.

If you are going to spend the money (just under a grand for a rebuilt engine) I would go with the higher horsepower engine. From what I have been reading your engine is 125-135 hp. The Vtec will give you 200 hp. I would go with the Vtec.

I gave you a link to Honda Hook up. They have a list of engines and the vehicles they will fit in. They also tell you if you need a ECU upgrade and/or possible rewire and/or custom kits.

The H22 would be ideal for you. In design, the F and H series engine are identical. You can even use an F series transmission on an H series engine. So if you just want to buy the H22 long block (about $700) you can use all of your old stuff and it will bolt up. The mounts are also the same, and the transmission for F and H series are both driven by cables. The h22 puts out around 200HP and is a great up grade for you since it will virtually bolt right in. You will also need the H22 ECU to run the vtec, fuel, and air correctly. Also I would get the wire harness so you dont have anything extra that needs to have plugs added on. Will save you some headache. Good luck!
