I will see another neuro surgeon in 10 days and maybe he is the last surgeon I will see, I should make a decision to take surgery or not.
I am preparing to describe my leg pain. Actually I can feel it at any time , the pain is moderate and likes dull pain in my calf, but it is not enough for using medicines. If someone can tell me what is correct pain scale ( 1-10) I should put it. I put 3-5 when I saw other surgeons before but don't know it was correctly described my problem.
If any one knew a medicine can help the moderate pain? I tried Lyrica but doesn’t help at all.

Thanks!

I have been told by my neurologist to avoid surgery. I have some leg discomfort off and on, as you have said you have. If it is not enough pain to take medication, then is it worth taking the chance that it might not work? That is what you have to decide.
Would you describe your pains as intermittent? Do they keep you from sleeping?
I would think that the scale of 1 - 10 would mean things like that. I took Neurontin for my leg pain - it is commonly prescribed for nerve pain. Have you asked your neuro about that? Be sure to research the surgery and possible outcomes very, very thoroughly before you make a decision is my advice. Good luck! Mabent

Yes, I can say my pain is intermittent but it almost never let me can't sleep.
just let me feel it . Recently I saw a good neuro surgeon, he said I only have 60-70% chance to fix that pain if I take surgery, but maybe the pain will come back again sometimes later, I will do my best to avoid the surgery but still need to find a non- surgery method to deal with this pain.

thanks!

I found a " Pain Rating Scale face" from web. so now I think mine scale should
be 4-6.

Thanks!

As far as the pain scale goes, there was a good thread in the pain management board about the levels of pain. A 6 is usually considered serIous enough that it disrupts your life, causes mood swings, and limits the amount of time that you can function without having to lay down.

Have you tried accupuncture? you might find some relief with that. I would certainly try everything else before you do surgery.,As my PM doc says, surgery is an answer, but it isn't always the right answer, but it is the final answer.

There are several other nerve meRAB that are out on the market besides Lyrica. You might want to try one of the other ones and see of that doesn't offer you some relief.

Yes, I want to try other to find one can work to moderate pain.

Well first of all, in my experience, most doctors won't go the surgical route until they have exhausted every other option, due to the general risks that come with any surgery like anethesia, bleeding etc. as well as the higher risks associated with any procedures involving the spine.

I've had to go through every type of injection therapy and next every type of physical therapy before my doctor will even discuss surgical options with me.

Like I said with my meRAB I am semi-functional usually ending up at a 4 when I take the full dosages allowed per day. If I'm lucky then I might get as low as 2.

If your doctor consents to surgery and all goes well I would expect to end up at 3 on my scale. Basically where the medications are an option that I would utilize based upon whether or not I feel the need for them on a day to day basis. For me that would be a success.

Hope that helps,
Michael
