over bumps? Hi Everyone. Hopefully someone can help me out with this. This past weekend, I replaced all four brake rotors on my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. Today when I was out driving, I heard a creaking noise coming from the rear when I would go over bumps. When I push down on the rear end (hard - causing it to bounce a lot) I can hear it creak too. I was thinking it could be the shocks/struts as the car now has 91,000 miles on it and since I've owned it (purchased with 59,000 miles) they have not been replaced. Although, the noise does not seem to be coming from the shock/strut assembly, but somewhere lower. I used to hear a noise similar when it was extremely cold out, but I was always inside the car so I never got out and pinpointed where it was coming from. I also had a 1993 Nissan Altima that would do the same thing when it was really cold out and never needed to replace the shocks/struts. Today it is probably 70 def. F and I am hearing the noise. Also, I hear the noise when I push and bounce both the driver and passenger side.
So, my questions are:
- Did I mess something up when I replaced the rotors causing this to happen? (I sprayed WD-40 on rubber parts when I replaced the rotors for lubrication and preservation.)
- Do I need my shocks/struts replaced? (I find it odd that both would make the creaking noise on the same day and when I called Midas to get an estimate they said $500-$600 for both rear to be fixed :-/ which I cannot really afford right now)
- Or is it something else?
I am hoping that it is something that is either inexpensive to fix or something I can do myself. I really appreciate any help with this!
