I called before the Holidays and after 9 years of loyalty they would not let me buy the 9242 for less than $550 so I said fuggeddaboudit and unplug me. They turned around and gave me 1YEAR free rental of the 9242 and 6 months free HD and this on a 1 YEAR contract. Sweet deal. Within a year, hopefully the hard drive in the 9242 will be upgraded and the price reduced so when my contract ends I can buy a new one after a year of using it for free.

Quick question, as I don't have any HDMI devices yet...

I'm about to order an HDMI cable. They come in regular and "1.3a-compliant" which are much more expensive. I don't suppose the extra bandwidth capability is needed, right?

You should see the retention thread... Very sweet retention deals for existing customers (if you threaten to cancel)

The guy was certain about not having to pay the $10 extra for HD. He said he was still paying $41 a month from programming years ago, and HD was working fine.

Now that I see what you get for the $10 fee, I realise that these are all in english and this guy said he only watched TV in French. So much for that.

How is Movie Network HD? As good as DVD? Is the sound always in 5.1? I almost never watch movies on Movie network now because they are Pan&Scan and stereo only. I might keep it if the HD is any good.

Sorry I can't help you, I refuse to subscribe to anymore than the basic HD.

The Quality is going down all the time.

We are waiting for the launch of a new bird next year to, hopefully, improve things.

I recently upgrded to HD... I found a 9200 in special at 399$ at Best Buy (in October) and decided to buy one...

I has a 5900 in the living room and a 3100 in the kids room... My dish already had the second LNBF, but I wasn't suscribing to any Nimiq 2 programming and therefore was eligible for the Nimiq 2 free upgrade.

When the technician came in he installed the 9200 in the living room (where there was already a SAT IN cable), a line for my mom's room (part of the 9200 install) and put in a new line for me to have Express Vu in my room (since he didn't have to run a line to the living room he considered it as the second line for the 9200)... All that was done free of charge...

I was also told by the rep I would get HD channels free of charge for the first 6 months since i'm a new HD suscriber. Verified 2 times with the rep, mentionning that I bought the receiver and he assured me I was eligible for the promo. Received the first bill and SURPRISE!, i'm being billed for the HD channels. Called Express Vu yestersday, and:"Sorry the promotion of 6 months of HD channels is only available for rentals". On top of it agent activated the channels the day I called to book the install (even if I insisted he should put it for the ionstall date) instead of the day I activated the receiver, making me pay a 4 days were I was not getting the channels. Spent about 30 minutes being out on and off on hold and at the end agent offered a 40$ credit to compensate. Can't wait to see next bill to see if it as been applied

Looked further on the bill nd SURPRISE!, a 50$ receiver credit I wasn't told about...

As you can see what you get will probably depend on the agent you get, the notes he puts in, and the agent who gets the call after romo is not applied as you were told...
