hi im going into the 11th grade and one of my summer assignments read a fiction novel written for an adult by an American author....

it cant be a young adult novel

and it cant be The great Gatsby, the grapes of wrath, Ethan Frome, and Their eyes were watching god because i guess were going to read them over the year

also does anyone know if little women would fit the criteria of an adult novel cuz im not sure lol

thanks for helping me :)

Try "What Dreams May Come" by Richard Matheson.

Or anything by Richard Matheson.

Hmm. I can't think of many other American authors...

Read "War of the Flowers" by Tad Williams. It's like 700-800 pages long, but it's written by an American and it's geared at adults.

If you want something shorter, try Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, also an American.

Jack Kerouac's "on the road" is a great book, funny, but a bit touph to read

For something a bit easier to read but still adult is Speaker for the Dead by orson scott card. It is the sequel to enders game (a teen book) but it stands alone fine. It has one MULTIPLE VERY prestigious awards. However it is science fiction so i dont know if that is allowed
