In the service, we used to tuck in the second blanket of our bunks about 12" from the bottom. They were called "dust covers." I made our family bed up this way today and my wife ask me what the purpose was and why they called it a dust cover. I had no answer other than "the drill sergeant told me to . . ." Now I'm curious if anybody knows if it had a purpose or was just military aesthetics?
