What is a good way for someone in their 30s to learn how to work on cars?

i'm a classic car buff, and am thinking of getting a couple classic cars from the 1960- But truth si, i know little about working on the engine, or fixing the mechanics or a car- I'd love to learn how to take an engine apart, reassemble it, and even restore a car-

Where should someone in their 30s with no mechanical or automotive training go to learn how to work on cars?
I don't want to work for someone else- rather, i'd rather have the expertise to work on my own cars..

Go to UTI. I go there and there are some people that go in not knowing how to change oil and that leave with the knowledge of people that have been doing it all their lives.
