What is a good nonfiction history book?

I need to choose a history book to read for my IB History of the Americas Internal Assessment. I just need a good nonfiction history book pertaining to the United States preferable less than 250 pages but more is ok too. From this book I have to determine my research question so I need a book on a "doable" topic i suppose.

If you're looking for something off-the-wall but still interesting, try The Evolution of the American Dream by Bob Skandalaris and Amber Clark. It's about the history of the concept of the American Dream in society. It's actually really interesting - and there's definitely potential for a "doable" topic.

I hope you find something you like!

I liked Howard Zinn's A History of the United States: 1492-Present. It's more than 250 pages, not sure how many exactly. You might also want to try The Founding Brothers. I haven't read it, so I can't tell you too much about it...

For future reference, always refer to the New York Times Best Sellers list of books, as well as the New York Review. :)

I would like for you to start w what is currently well-written and widely read.

Two authors you must familiarize yourself w are, Laura Hillenbrand and David McCullough.

Hillenbrand penned Unbroken.

McCullough, The Greater Journey.

The latter has written extensively about our great history.

For openers, all the same. :)

The last non-fiction book I read was "To Conquer Hell: The Meuse-Argonne". It's about the USA's involvement in WWI, specifically the battle of Argonne in France.

Lots of interesting pictures & first-hand stories. Not a very long book either.
