...GOAL IN LIFE!? I've recently moved to a new state with my parents and I have no idea what to do with my life. I work full-time at a retail job just to earn a paycheck and I hope to only be there for no more than 3 months (I started about 3 weeks ago).
So, since moving here about 5 months ago, I have made no friends (introvert, here! so it's not like I'm lonely) but at the same time, it gets a little tiring living at home and only having my mom to talk to. I live near enough to New York city that I could commute there for a job and I think that would be exciting. The problem is that I don't know what I want to do.
I have a degree in English/journalism and I have thought about working/interning at a magazine and have found the competition to be ferocious. I am barely qualified compared to some of the other (mostly) girls who work at these jobs and another hang-up is that though I have a degree in journalism, I am fairly sure I do NOT want to pursue a news writing job. I have been searching the web for jobs in the area that are entry-level but I don't know how to narrow the search down and I'm getting discouraged.
I have done some of the career tests and I'm reading "What Color is Your Parachute" and I have discovered that I like to work with things and ideas, with people who are creative/inventors, I like to follow directions and have clearly defined goals.
I have considered working in the Federal Government, at a publishing house and though I hate the idea, temping until I find a job that is a good fit. I like nature, reading, learning, writing, painting, crafts and being good at what I do. So I guess, any ideas about what I should do with myself? Careers, fields, activities, any suggestions for what I can do until I find a direction in life would be vastly appreciated!!! Thanks.
