what is a good cordless landline phone?

I currently have vtech phones .. expensive and great for the first year .. now they lose calls on a regular basis - phone just goes dead - and vtech's answer is for me to buy a new vtech phone (LOL!) - which they will give me at a special discount which ends up costing more than the local Future Shop!

so ... anyone have a brand/model that they have had good, long term, success with?

looking for cordless with answering machine and a 2nd handset
