What is a good bike to buy a 9yo who's learning to ride?

I want to buy a bicycle for my 9-year-old nephew to learn on, but I'm not sure where to start.

I'd like to hear recommendations on what type of bike to get, as well as what sort of features it should have on it for a child at this age..
