I have been riding avidly for a few years now, and i think it is time for me to make the move to full suspension. I started on a 2006 Jamis Komodo 3.0, and really liked it for its beefy frame, and good for the price components (except for the shock, that got upgraded). I now feel that despite my bike being 37 pounds, and a beast, my riding demands me to make the move over to full suspension. I want a full suspension bike with 160-170 mm of suspension, ideal for the heavy duty terrain out here in Ma. and beefy enough for freeride (not lift accessed, so i have to be able to go up, but up to around 8 foot drops, really gnarly descents, i live for the downhills), but i would rather not exceed 40 pounds...as i will be pedaling it up the hills. Here are the bikes i have found to most suit my need so far:
Santa Cruz Nomad (first choice, except $5000 dollars is a bit high on price range)
Kona Coilair
Specialized SX Trail
Rocky Mountain Slayer (what model would be best, i don't think 150 mm of rear is enough)
If you have ever ridden Bruce and Toms in Gloucester Ma...that is my primary riding location, and that is the style of terrain, not for weak bikes.
I am hoping to keep my price around $3000 (or less) i was going to spring 4000 for the coilair deluxe, but i have heard that is flimsy because of the magic link.
I can most more info if it is helpful....just answer and ask questions (about what i want for a bike) and i will answer as best i can.
Thanks...
I Give best answer, as always.
